How the Grinch Stole Christmas! by Dr. Seuss is a holiday classic which has been shared among families for many years because of the entertaining delivery of it’s simple message – Christmas is about more than gifts. After stealing the Who’s Christmas gifts, the Grinch discovers that without trees, presents, wreaths, and their feast, the residents of Who-ville still have holiday spirit. In today’s society, this message is even more important as Christmas decorations appear in the stores earlier, and shops open for sales on Thanksgiving Day. Use this classic story about the Grinch and the lesson he learns about Christmas to teach your kids and get them into the spirit of the season!

The Little Christmas Elf by Nikki Shannon Smith tells the story of Nina, the smallest elf in Santa’s workshop. It’s Nina’s first chance to make toys, so she spends all day trying to finish her teddy bear. She isn’t able to finish the bear in time, but Santa urges her not to give up. In a sweet ending to the story, her hard work pays off. Besides being a fun story, this book gives parents the opportunity to talk to their kids about perseverance and the idea that everyone, big or small can make a difference! Elves are so much fun to read about, and they can give kids a chance to have fun and learn as well!

Games & Fun with the Gingerbread Baby!

Celebrate the holiday with these fun gingerbread activities for kids, inspired by the Christmas story

The smell of gingerbread is such a pleasant part of the holiday season. The cheerful decorating of houses, people and animals made out of the sweet dough is another fun tradition for many families. The sweet and spicy smell and the fun of decorating inspired me to create these fun activities to pair with an adorable book by Jan Brett.

The Polar Express: A Caldecott Award Winner by Chris Van Allsburg book reviews | GoodreadsThe Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg is a Christmas classic and a personal favorite of mine. It tells the story of a young boy who isn’t quite sure if he still believes in Santa, until he sees a mysterious train appear on his street on Christmas Eve. He jumps aboard the Polar Express and learns about the spirit of Christmas. This is a great story to share with kids around the holidays and remind them to believe in the magic of Christmas. The story is accompanied by beautiful illustrations which will draw kids into the North Pole. There are many ways to make the magic of this story come to life while also embracing learning opportunities.

Bringing Joy Back to the Holidays!

Stress Free HolidaysDo you remember the joy and wonder you experienced as a child during the holiday season? From Halloween straight through New Years, your days were probably full of songs, games, gifts, food and parties. As we get older, we start to feel some of that magic fade away. We rack up the bills buying gifts, baking supplies, tickets to holiday shows, and more. We stress ourselves to the limit making travel plans, planning parties and making sure that we get every minute filled with holiday fun to try to get back some of that joy we felt as kids. Does overbuying and overplanning really bring back the joy?
