I love when new products allow kids to enter the world of their favorite books. Who doesn’t want to be fully immersed in their favorite literary worlds, and connect with their favorite characters? I am also a fan of integrating some technology into my daughter’s learning, so I am always interested in products that can help me to teach. My daughter and I have always been big fans of music. We sing together, we play piano, we play toy instruments, and we love to dance. I have sung to her every night before bed from the very beginning, and I have encouraged her to experience a wide variety of musical genres. Through the influence of her favorite TV show, as well as the influence of her grandfather, she developed an early love of classical music, and she loves identifying and playing lots of musical instruments. Bringing the Alphabet to Life
I love alphabet books. During one of my classes in grad school, we spent an entire section of class time studying alphabet books and their importance in children’s literature. I really love seeing how different authors can take the same 26 letters and create such fun and engaging stories with them. Learning about Animal Families
What do you call a group of owls? While this may seem like the start of a joke, it’s not! (The answer is a Parliament). I have always been interested in finding out what different animal families are called. So when we had the opportunity to check out today’s book, I was thrilled to learn a variety of animal group names that I had never heard before. This inspired me to create some fun animal family activities with my daughter as well.
Teaching Sign Language to Kids with Nita’s First Signs!
I love sign language. When I was in college, I was thrilled to be able to take a sign language course. I have always loved watching people sign, and wish that I could do the same. I knew that I wanted to teach my daughter sign language when she was a baby, and she quickly picked up a couple of words. Once she started talking, we didn’t stick to it as much. But I am always showing her the alphabet and hoping to continue our sign language journey together.
