One of the things you hear all the time nowadays is that our world needs more empathy. So teaching kids to be empathetic is an important task for parents and teachers. As those entrusted with raising the next generation, it’s our job to teach them how to be good human beings. Little Bookworm is a very empathetic kid. She is the first to run to help someone in need, and she often takes it upon herself to defend those who are being picked on. So I wanted to share how to use children’s books to teach empathy, and how we have made it part of our daily conversations.
Reading to kids

Teaching kids to be grounded and mindful can be difficult. So we often turn to children’s books about mindfulness to help us develop strategies that we can use. Today we wanted to share some of the new mindfulness resources for kids that we have been using.
We love escape rooms in our family. We tend to get a little competitive with them, but it is all in good fun. So when we had the chance to check out an at home escape room game for kids, we jumped at the chance! And we paired it with some fun new pirate books for kids too!
Last fall I had the opportunity to check out the Toy Insider’s Holiday of Play toy show. While there, I had a chance to check out the Toniebox, an incredible new screen free toy for kids. This storytelling toy started in Germany and is quickly growing here in the United States. We were able to try out one of these awesome toys, and wanted to share our favorite things about it with everyone. As Little Bookworm says “Everyone should have one of these!”
My daughter recently finished Pre-K. I was disappointed that she didn’t have an opportunity to have a graduation ceremony, but I decided to ask her the same question that they asked me when I graduated from Pre-K: what do you want to be when you grow up? I am not going to lie, I told them I wanted to be a mom. (Check that one off the goals list!). My daughter’s answers were a lot more detailed than mine, which lead me to think about how to support a child’s dreams and future.
