Women in Science Who Changed the World Written by Heidi Poleman and illustrated by Angie Alape This board book introduces little ones to incredible women who have made a difference in the world of science. Each two page spread focuses on a different female scientist, sharing a little bit about her background and her accomplishments. The illustrations show the women hard at work, doing what they loved. Song After Song: The Musical Life of Julie Andrews Written by Julie Hedlund and illustrated by Ilaria Urbinati This picture book biography shares the early life of Julie Andrews, and how she used music to find her voice and deal with struggles in her life. Kids will enjoy learning about the childhood of the woman who would become Mary Poppins and Maria, and learning how she fell in love with music. The back of the book includes an author's note and a timeline of Andrews' life. The Queen of Chess: How Judit Polgar Changed the Game Written by Laurie Wallmark and illustrated by Stevie Lewis In this biography, kids are introduced to Judit Polgar, one of the youngest chess grandmasters in history. The text follows Judit as she grows from a young girl playing chess at home, to one of the most important chess figures. Turner and illustrated by Vivien Mildenberger This picture book biography introduces readers to Caroline Herschel, a woman who turned her interest in the night sky into a remarkable scientific career. The book follows her from childhood through adulthood, addressing the obstacles she faced on her way to building a telescope and making incredible discoveries alongside her brother William. A wide variety of women share their insights on facing fears, dreaming big, facing obstacles, and more. There are lots of pictures and illustrations throughout the book as well. This is a great book for encouraging young girls to follow their passions and dream big, with lots of successful women sharing their own stories.
