A Winter Walk in the City

Written by Cathy Goldberg Fishman and illustrated by Melanie Hall

This holiday counting book uses a rhyming text and soft, gentle illustrations to highlight the many holiday sights to be seen around a neighborhood. Each page focuses on one number, highlighting different traditions and holidays. The illustrations feature a diverse cast of characters celebrating Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, and more.

This festive addition to Sattler’s series of board books puts a funny spin on the carol “The Twelve Days of Christmas”. Each page, or two page spread, focuses on a bird themed spin on the original lyrics, while the accompanying illustrations feature hilarious birds in funny scenes. Kids will be encouraged to sing along, while laughing at the funny bird characters.

5 More Sleeps ’til Christmas

Written by Jimmy Fallon and illustrated by Rich Deas

This adorable new Christmas book for kids follows a young boy as he counts down the days until Christmas. Each day, he counts down another day, and each night he claims that he can’t fall asleep, only to drift to sleep with the window open and his dog at his side. The text conveys the impatient feelings of all kids around the holidays, while the vibrant illustrations highlight the excitement of getting closer to Christmas Day. Little Bookworm found the repeated joke of the boy falling asleep after claiming he wasn’t tired to be the funniest part, and something she can definitely relate to.

It’s a Wonderful Life

Adapted by Paul Ruditis and illustrated by Sarah Conradsen

This storybook version of the popular movie follows George Bailey as he grows up in Bedford Falls, and eventually makes the fateful wish that he had never been born. The easy to read text shares the important points of the story, summarizing the plot for young readers. Meanwhile, the striking illustrations really bring the story to life. This is a great way to introduce the story to young kids who aren’t ready to watch the movie. Plus, it will be a touching bit of holiday nostalgia for fans of the classic tale.

The gentle rhyming text shares all of the things that Christmas is, while the illustrations highlight the love between a reindeer calf and his family. Everybody’s Tree

In this touching tale, a little spruce tree is planted by a young boy who watches it grow through the years. As it nears the end of it’s life, the now old man decorates it with his grandchildren. Soon people come to the farmhouse and ask if the family would allow the tree to be everybody’s tree in the city. So they take it down and bring it to the city where it brings joy to everyone. The story is accompanied by beautiful, soothing illustrations that highlight the passage of time, and the joy of sharing at Christmastime.

Elf

Based on the film written by David Berenbaum and illustrated by Kim Smith

Everyone’s favorite elf is now in storybook form! This illustrated version of the hit movie follows Buddy the Elf as he learns that he is not really an elf, and goes on a quest to find his family. Along the way, he learns a lot about himself and life outside the North Pole, and in the end, it is up to him to save Christmas. The story is broken up into short, easy to read paragraphs, and accompanied by large, colorful illustrations that will have kids smiling along with the story. This is a must have for fans of the movie!

Mouse’s Night Before Christmas

This sweet Christmas book starts out with the familiar words of “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas”, but takes a turn when a little mouse is still up on Christmas Eve night. When Santa gets lost due to a nasty storm, ,the little mouse takes it upon himself to lead Santa on his travels and help him deliver the presents. In return, Santa happily offers him a gift, which leads to the granting of his Christmas wish. The sweet story of friendship and kindness is accompanied by soft illustrations full of magical touches.

Little Red Sleigh

‘Twas the Night Before Christmas on the Farm

Written by Craig Manning and illustrated by Sumi Collina

This farm themed spin on the classic Christmas poem uses a little lamb as the main character who wakes up on Christmas Eve and glimpses Santa Claus as he visits the farm house. The rhyming text keeps a similar story to the original, using some of same lines as well. The illustrations are bright and colorful, highlighting the innocence of the little lamb, and the joy of Santa Claus.

Milo’s Christmas Parade

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade is an annual tradition for many families. This sweet book pays tribute to the hard working people who create holiday magic through the parade every year. The story highlights the joy of the holidays and the love and support of family, and the illustrations are full of adorable opossums creating their own holiday magic.

Comet the Unstoppable Reindeer

This funny story follows Comet, one of Santa’s reindeer as he tries to save Christmas. When Comet gets injured and can’t fly with Santa on Christmas Eve, he has to stay home by himself. But when he finds Santa’s bag of gifts left behind, he decides he has to save the day and get those gifts to the kids waiting for Santa around the world. The rhyming text is full of funny jokes, as well as touching moments. Kids will love the adorable cartoon style illustrations of the silly Comet and his attempts to help Santa with Christmas deliveries.
