One of my favorite parts of the day is snuggling up with my daughter and reading to her before bed. Each night we finish our reading time with a picture book about love, or a soothing bedtime story. We have lots of children’s books about love, and we keep them together with the bedtime books because they are perfect for lulling her to sleep with thoughts of love and security. Today I’m sharing some of the latest children’s books about love between parents and kids that we are enjoying.

Because You’re Mine
Written by Nancy Tillman
Nancy Tillman has the unique ability to put a parent’s love and affection into beautiful prose. Her latest book puts those skills to use sharing the intense love and pride that parents have for their kids. The rhyming text reminds the child that no matter what they do or where they go, the love and support of their parents will follow them. The beautiful words are paired with striking illustrations highlighting mothers and children, both animal and human. Kids will love the soothing story and engaging illustrations, while parents will appreciate the book’s ability to voice their inner feelings for their kids.

Three Squeezes
Written by Jason Pratt and illustrated by Chris Sheban
This heartwarming story follows a father as he speaks to his son and watches him grow from a baby to adulthood. He shares how he shows his love, support and affection for his son through three squeezes. Whether they are long hugs or squeezes of the hand, they show his support in good times and bad. And when he is fully grown, and his father is older, he hopes that he will return those three squeezes, because it is a way to show their love. The story is highlighted by soft, gentle illustrations that showcase many parent-child moments that will be familiar to adults reading the story.

The Runaway Shirt
Written by Kathy Macmillan and illustrated by Julia Castano
This adorable story follows a mother as she attempts to fold the laundry. Her young child sneaks up on her and interrupts the process. The mother picks up her child in a clean shirt and pretends to fold the shirt and put it away. Throughout the book, the child tries to run away and play as the mother tries to put the shirt away. In the end, they finish the game with a snuggle and expressions of love, reminding parents that any part of the day can become fun and an opportunity to create memories with your kids.
Your Nose: A Wild Little Love Song
Written and illustrated by Sandra Boynton
This adorable board book showers love on your little one’s adorable nose. The sweet song is lots of fun to read or sing aloud to your kids, and it is paired with adorable animal illustrations done in Boynton’s popular cartoon style. Kids will love the cute illustrations, and listening to their parents sing a funny song all about their cute noses.
You are a Gift to Me
Written by Sandra Magsamen
This colorful board book is a love letter to little ones. The text features loving proclamations from parents to their kids. The sweet messages are paired with adorable illustrations of animal parents and kids. Each of the illustrations and some of the text feature a stitched appearance, which pairs with the idea that the book was “made with love”.

You’re My Little Baby
By Eric Carle
This adorable touch and feel board book highlights the loving relationship between parent and child through sweet rhyming proclamations of love. The illustrations are done in Carle’s signature style, with lots of colors and textures. Each two page spread features a different flap to lift, or a texture to feel. Kids will love the adorable animal illustrations, and the textures to explore. Adults will appreciate the loving message shared in the book, and the cute ending.
What I Like Most
Written by Mary Murphy and illustrated by Zhu Cheng-Liang
This book follows a young girl as she thinks about what she likes most in the world. From foods to books, she explores why she appreciates the things in her life. Kids will recognize a lot of their favorite things in her musings, as well as the heartwarming decision she comes to at the end of the story. The sweet story is paired with colorful illustrations of the young girl enjoying her favorite things, from the smallest joys, to the biggest emotions.
