Father’s Day is right around the corner, so I wanted to share some new children’s books about dads and kids that are perfect for celebrating the holiday.

My Daddy and Me
Written by Linda Ashman and illustrated by Jane Massey
This sweet board book uses a rhyming text and soothing illustrations to celebrate all the small everyday ways that dads show their love to their kids. Each two page spread features another father and child pairing participating in regular day to day activities, with rhyming text from the perspective of the young child. The text is soothing, and allows kids to easily connect the book to their own lives, and the illustrations feature a diverse group of fathers and children.

Cave Dada
Written and illustrated by Brandon Reese
This hilarious picture book follows a caveman as he attempts to put his baby to bed. But his baby doesn’t want to go to bed until he has heard a story. The caveman dad tries to dissuade the little baby, but gives in at the first sign of tears. However, reading a bedtime story isn’t as easy as we think it is, especially when baby asks for the BIG book. Kids will love the mischievous baby, and parents will recognize the bedtime struggles illustrated in the story.
Three Squeezes
Written by Jason Pratt and illustrated by Chris Sheban
This sweet book follows a father and son as their relationship grows and develops over the years. The rhyming text celebrates the repeated use of three small squeezes to offer love and comfort through the ups and downs of life. The illustrations are adorable, highlighting the young boy as he grows up, and the loving relationship between father and son.

Wild About Dads
Written by Diana Murray and illustrated by Amber Alvarez
When it comes to celebrating Dads, we can’t forget about those in the animal kingdom! This sweet book celebrates all of the amazing things that dads do, and shows how fathers in the animal world care for their young. The simple rhyming text can be used to describe both animals and humans, which kids will find lots of humor in. The illustrations show lots of sweet father and child animal pairings, with vibrant backgrounds highlighting their habitats.
Papa Brings Me the World
Written by Jenny Sue Kostecki-Shaw
Lulu’s papa travels the world as a photojournalist, and when he comes home, he shares stories of his travels with Lulu. He brings home gifts and stories from all over the world, and inspires her to develop a love for the world as well. The illustrations are vibrant, and use different textures, patterns, and styles to highlight his world travels, as well as the loving relationship between father and daughter.

Lion Needs a Haircut
Written by Hyewon Yum
This silly book follows a lion father and his son as they face a trip to the barber shop. Little Lion is afraid to get a haircut, but his father thinks that it is time. Their argument escalates, leading to the realization that maybe Dad needs a haircut as well. Together they face their fears and learn that getting a haircut isn’t so bad after all. The story highlights the familiar fear of first haircuts, as well as the sweet relationship between the father and his son.
Love, Dad & Me

This father-daughter keepsake journal is a fun way for dads and daughters to connect and communicate. Each page features thought prompts or conversation starters, and there are spaces for both father and daughter to share their thoughts.
