Today I wanted to share some of the nature books that we have read recently that have inspired us to do a little more exploring of our own.

Exploring Living Things Around You

Nature’s Wonders was written by Alejandro Algarra and Gustavo Mazali. This colorful guide introduces kids to interesting tidbits about plants, animals, and other natural wonders. The book starts with a table of contents, so kids can easily find topics that interest them. Every two page spread covers a different topic in an easy to read and engaging text.

Each page also features a large, colorful illustration of the topic being discussed, with a diverse cast of children exploring the world. This is a great book for getting kids interested in the wonders of nature that they see around them.

Do Bugs Wear Shoes?: And Other Silly Questions was written by Addie Broussard and Anthony Puttee. This informative guide introduces kids to bugs and interesting bug facts. The text uses a question and answer format, bright colorful fonts, and engaging illustrations and photographs to answer all kinds of serious and silly questions that kids may have.

The layout and illustrations are eye-catching, and the breakdown of the information into fun questions and small captions makes it more fun for kids to read, and less overwhelming for kids who are shy about nonfiction texts. This is also a great way to get kids interested in learning about bugs, and the fun layout of this book may inspire them to research more of the topics covered.

The Look and Wonder Series

The Look and Wonder Series was written by Kay Barnham and illustrated by Maddie Frost. This series of colorful nonfiction books introduces kids to various scientific cycles and systems. Each book focuses on a different topic and uses engaging text to pique the reader’s interest. The brightly colored illustrations feature two young kids exploring the world around them. The back of each book includes activities for kids to do, as well as tips for parents and teachers. There is also a list of related books listed on the last page.

The Amazing Life Cycle of Butterflies explores the cycle that butterflies go through from egg to butterfly. The text touches on interesting facts including the enemies that caterpillars have, as well as how butterflies use their feet and antennae to taste and smell. There is even information on how kids can help the butterflies by creating a garden of specific flowers.

The Amazing Life Cycle of Plants introduces readers to the growth cycle of plants. The text explores the many types of seeds and plants, as well as the importance of a plant’s roots and leaves. There are also lots of interesting facts about specific plants, and the different ways that they grow. Kids will also find it interesting to learn about the journey that some seeds take, including how animals can help them travel!

The Great Big Water Cycle Adventure walks readers through the water cycle. The text explores all of the forms that water can take, and how it moves from one source to another. The illustrations are great for showing the many different forms of water, and the flow from one part of the cycle to the next.

A Stroll Through the Seasons introduces readers to the different seasons. The text shares how each seasons effects plants, animals, weather patterns, and even the amount of sunlight that we get. The illustrations are full of vibrant colors and lots of small details, bringing each season to life.
