It’s almost time for apple picking! I love the Fall season and all the fun activities that come with it. Picking apples, drinking cider, baking delicious apple treats, and snuggling up with some books are all some of my favorite activities. To celebrate the season, I decided to gather some of my favorite children’s books about apple picking and apples!

Hungry Bunny was written and illustrated by Claudia Rueda. This fun interactive book follows a hungry little bunny while he tries to gather apples. When he is faced with obstacles, he asks the reader for help by turning and manipulating the book. The book even includes a satiny red ribbon, which represents the bunny’s scarf. The reader will need to use the ribbon on the pages in order to help the rabbit succeed in his mission. This book is a fun apple picking romp that kids will love reading and interacting with over and over.
Learning About Apples
Apples was written by Gail Gibbons. This informational book is full of facts and information about apples. From their place in historical events, to the wide varieties available, there is a little something for everyone. The text is easy to understand, giving readers a lot of background information on apples, their growth, and their place in our world.
Apples for Everyone (Picture the Seasons) was written by Jill Esbaum. This informative book uses simple text and vivid illustrations to show how apples grow, are harvested, and eventually become yummy Fall treats. The book also contains fun facts about apples and their history in America.
Apple Farmer Annie was written by Monica Wellington. Annie is a busy apple farmer who grows and sells delicious apples, and also makes tasty apple treats. The simple text is accompanied by colorful illustrations, full of details and apple themed objects. This is a great introduction to apples and harvest time for young readers.
Visiting the Apple Orchard
Apple Picking Day! (Step into Reading) was written by Candice Ransom and illustrated by Erika Meza. This early reader uses rhyming text and brightly colored illustrations to tell the story of a young brother and sister pair as they enjoy a day of apple picking at a local orchard.
Apples, Apples, Apples was written by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace. When Minna, Pip, and their parents head to a local orchard to pick apples, the bunny family learns a lot of interesting facts about apples, as well as tips on how to pick them and make them into tasty treats. The multilayered illustrations accompanying the story are both eye catching and impressive.
Apples and Pumpkins was written by Anne Rockwell and illustrated by Lizzy Rockwell. Join a young girl and her family while they go apple picking at a local orchard. They pick apples off the tree and pumpkins off the vine, and take their treasures home, just in time for Halloween night. The illustrations complementing the story are bright and colorful.

What can you find at an apple orchard?
The Apple Orchard Riddle (Mr. Tiffin’s Classroom Series) was written by Margaret McNamara and illustrated by G. Brian Karas. Join Mr. Tiffin and his students while they take a school trip to the local apple orchard. He gives them a riddle before they begin their adventure, encouraging them to explore and examine all that the orchard has to offer. The story is full of interesting facts about apples, while the illustrations are detailed and colorful.

Apple Picking Time (Dragonfly Books) was written by Michele B. Slawson. When the apples are ready to be picked, everyone in town takes off of work and school to take part in the harvest. This story follows Anna and her family as they take part in the harvest. The text is full of descriptive language while the illustrations are beautifully detailed and full of autumnal colors.
From Apple Trees to Cider, Please! was written by Felicia Sanzari Chernesky and illustrated by Julia Patton. A young girl and her mom head to a local apple orchard to pick apples. They also learn about cider, try some delicious treats and enjoy an apple festival. The peppy rhyming text is paired with brightly colored cartoon style artwork.
Watching Apple Trees Grow
The Apple Pie Tree was written by Zoe Hall and illustrated by Shari Halpern. As two young kids watch out their window, their apple tree changes from season to season. The kids observe the changes that the tree and it’s bird inhabitants go through during the year, and eventually use the tree’s yummy fruit to create a delicious apple pie. The story is accompanied by beautiful collage style illustrations which highlight the various forms that the tree takes.

The Seasons of Arnold’s Apple Tree was written by Gail Gibbons. This story follows a young boy named Arnold and his apple tree. As the seasons change, so does his tree. From collecting spring blossoms to munching on ripe apples, Arnold enjoys all of the different changes that his tree goes through. The illustrations accompanying the story are colorful and bright, showing the many changes that Arnold and his tree go through during a year.
