Preschool in a Box!

As a teacher and a mom, I am always looking for ways to entertain my daughter while also teaching her. I try to fill our days with various learning activities or opportunities to be creative and practice important skills. While it can be lots of fun to come up with different activities to keep her interested and motivated to learn, it can also be a lot of work! Today I’m excited to share a company who aims to help busy parents to give kids a variety of learning  opportunities, delivered right to your door!

M is for Monster is a company that was created by a former teacher, and aims to help parents to provide their kids with quality learning opportunities through play. Each month subscribers receive a box full of fun activities centered around different themes. Options range from a single box with 16 activities to a 3 month subscription with 4 full themes per month. There are 3 different levels available, so you can get activities which are appropriately matched to your child’s skill level. You also have the additional option of purchasing the matching books to accompany your activities.

Pre-Planned Lessons & Activities

Each theme comes packaged in it’s own colorful wrapping paper with printables, instructions and all of the materials you need. They include activities for a wide range of skills and each game is easy to set up and play. I loved that all of the materials were included, from the playdough and cookie cutters to the glue and paint. When we had some downtime on a rainy day, all I had to do was open up one of the themed envelopes and all of the activities were ready to go. It’s such a relief to have quality activities and supplies available for those days when you just can’t seem to come up with anything!

Our Experience

We had the opportunity to check out the Level 1 August Learning Box (pictured above) and I was blown away by all that was included! Our themes were Pond, Transportation, Art and Dogs. The activities in our themes covered a wide range of skills in such fun and creative ways. I really liked the Art theme since it provided background information on famous artists including Andy Warhol and Jackson Pollock and allowed us to create artwork inspired by their styles. My daughter’s favorite was definitely the Pond theme. She loved making the little frogs jump to the letters of the alphabet.

Adapting and Expanding

Part of what I really like about this box is that the activities are already prepared, but they are open ended enough that you can expand on them. The instructions were all easy to follow and the activities work on certain skills, but can easily be adapted for further practice. The transportation theme included a small wooden car and a set of cards with the word CAR spelled out in roads. The idea was to roll the car towards the letters and have her call out the letter it stopped near, but she also had a lot of fun tracing her little car along the letters. I appreciate products that allow her to be creative, and these games gave her an opportunity to create her own fun as well.

The Verdict

Overall, we both highly recommend trying out this subscription box! She had so much fun with all of the activities and games included and I loved how many skills and topics we were able to cover with almost no prep work! This is an excellent product for parents who want to begin introducing learning activities into their day, as well as a great supplement to any teaching that you already do. Several of these activities will be used to create quiet time boxes for my daughter to pull out whenever she wants, since she can play them on her own as well as with me.

There are all kinds of great options available, so you can get a box that is just right for your family. There is even a Try Me box, which allows you to test it out! Click here for more information on these fun boxes!

    • I hope you check it out! It was so much fun to have all of these fun activities and games ready to go at a moments notice!

  1. This looks SO fun!!!!! And the prices aren’t that bad either! Seriously considering this for my son this fall. He would love it!

  2. This is such a great idea! It looks like so much fun, too. My youngest is going to Kindergarten this year but I still think I may try this for him, with things suited to his learning level.

    • I hope you do! There are lots of great activities for different levels and they are great for keeping around the house for quiet time activities he can do on his own. You can also easily extend the activities as he gets older!

  3. This looks really neat! I’m always interested in fun curriculum for little ones! My guy will be two in September, but already is proficient with lower and upper case letters and numbers 1-20, colors, and basic shapes. That said, he’s also still very much a two year old in other regards so I always find myself mixing and matching things to keep him engaged. This seems like a really great box!

    • That is awesome! I’m in the same boat of trying to keep up with the learning curve of my two year old and keep her entertained with new projects and activities. It’s so nice to have these all ready to go!

  4. What a great idea this is! So much fun and learning all packed into one box! I will have to remember this for my nieces!

  5. This is awesome! I am always looking for fun and easy learning activities for my son.
But I always run out of ideas. I am definitely going to check this out.
    Love it

    • I hope you do, and I hope you like it! I love having these activities on hand when I am fresh out of ideas of my own!

  6. I love this concept! Of course I sometimes try to use Pinterest to get ideas but M is for Monster has simplified it for us non- teachers. I’m going to have to check this out for my boys, 4 and almost 3.

    • I hope you do! I am always browsing Pinterest for inspiration, but it is so great that all of the supplies and instructions are ready to go on the days that I am not on my game!

  7. Spending time with these kinds of activities are the best times spent with my daughter! I love it the product was created by teachers. Will try it very soon with my young one!

  9. I LOVE this! I’ve been looking for ideas for preschool homeschooling! We weren’t able to find a preschool that we could afford for my son this year so it looks like we will be doing it at home!

  10. What an amazing box! I homeschool so this kind of thing would be perfect for my little ones who aren’t school age but I still want to involve.

    • I love that they are reusable and that I can set up a shelf in our playroom for these fun games she can play on her own!

  11. This is the most lovely thing to have for kids. how I wish I could have found them 7 years before. My kids have grown up now and I remember how difficult it was to engage them while they were toddlers

  12. This is such a great idea! I love how everything is combined together in one box, and that you have such a wide array of activities in there. The fact that there is a lot of independent/quiet time stuff is great, too. I’ll pass this along to my friend whose daughter will be entering preschool next year 🙂
