Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney is currently my 15 month old daughter’s favorite book. We read it at least 3 or 4 times a day. It is a quick story with a nice rhyming pattern, so it is a good book to read aloud. The story has a nice message about knowing that your mother always loves you, even when she can’t be with you. It is a relatable story for kids of all ages, and for parents as well. (How many parents can recognize Mama Llama’s frustration when Baby Llama wants her by his side RIGHT NOW?)

Pajama Day – With cooler temperatures approaching, who doesn’t love to get cozy in your comfiest clothes? Gather up a few of the Llama Llama books, or some favorite books of your own and snuggle up with a bowl of popcorn and read together.
Practice Patterns – Young kids can work on patterning by decorating their own pair of red pajamas made out of red paper.
Matching Quilt – Recreate Baby Llama’s quilt by drawing a grid on a piece of paper. Cut square shapes out of construction paper that will fit onto the squares of your grid. Write upper case letters on the grid and lower case letters on the squares of paper. Have your child match the pairs. This activity can be adapted to suit your child’s learning, such as matching numbers to groups of dots or matching simple equations to solutions.
